C Grade Vets Match Report

The C Grade Vets second game of the season saw us take on Marcellin Old Collegians on the top oval at Morton Park.

We lost the toss (as usual) and were invited to bowl. 

Early wickets saw Marcellin in trouble at 3 for 23 however a middle period where we missed a number of chances both behind the stumps and in the field saw Marcellin fight back

We were able to dismiss them for 176 from 35 overs.  

Major contributors with the ball were Scott Hubber (2/22 from six and with luck could have had 4 wickets), Peter Turnley (1/12 from 3) and at the death specialist George Hart (2/10 from two). 

In response we were 2/82 after 18 overs and on track to chase down the total thanks to solid contributions from the top 3- Jamie Moore (39), Dean Croft (19) and Robbo (17). 

Jason Evans in his first outing for the club made a really impressive 18 batting at 4.  

At 5 for 108, the game was there to be won or lost. 

Ian Rayner who dropped down to number six after injuring a knee in the field simply slayed the opposition bowlers for a quick fire 40 not out and with the tail wagging we were able to chase down 176 with an over to spare. 

It was a fantastic win in challenging conditions with a number of players carrying injuries/suffering from old age. 

Special welcome to Jason Evans in his first game and return of Fred Meilak from family duties. Both are great additions. 

The group is blending together well and playing some great cricket in the right spirit.

Thanks to those Club members who came down and supported us, Jay and Patto for post game refreshments and Turk for sustenance. It was much appreciated.

After a bye, our next game is against Mont Albert Red on 20 November.
