Coach Address No.1 Season 2011-2012

Well, season 2011/12 is rapidly approaching and we are 3 weeks into
preseason and numbers have been pleasing. For those that haven’t quite found the time or motivation, please make the effort to get down for a run, bat and bowl at our next session. It’s vital we all get a strong preseason in to maximise our opportunities for success.
Our playing stocks have improved this year. We have had a few new
faces at training so far, which is fantastic, and a few returning
players will add some great depth to our club. Matty Yeo is fit and
raring to go after recovering from back stress fractures. And Matty's
return has put a real spring in Bill's step, with the opening bowling
partnership ready to fire this year. Heath O'Dwyer is back and looks
ready to pick up where he left off...welcome back Heata. Tom Thorn is
back...and even at this early stage, is looking very comfortable in
the nets.
A few notables that have also been training strong, Mick Gregory, Tom Kilkenny, Andy Yeo, Callum Haughey, Luke Gibson, Vikram Hadya, Eddie Lee and Ronald Slight are all putting in the hard work early in their search for improvement! The new Zander is a huge plus for the club. His effort and determination to train hard over the offseason is a credit to him, and I'm positive it will lead to a big year for the 'not as' big fella!
I'd also like to welcome Damian Cupido to the BCC family. Cupes has a
great cricketing brain, and I'm excited to have him at our club.
Damian will be hands on at training, so do not hesitate to put your
hand up if you want to do some one on one work in the nets. He is sure
to be an asset on and off the field. For those of you still participating in winter sports, I’d like to wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season, especially if participating in finals. I understand
it's tough, but please make the effort to get to indoor training. It's
important to at least show you face and support your mates.
I want to make it known, that this upcoming season is a huge one for Blackburn Cricket Club. It's fair to say that when reflecting on our recent on-field feats, we have under-achieved. The club has not tasted Premiership success since season 2003/04 when both the 1st and 2nd XI
won the big one! This is the year that we turn our fortunes around....and it all starts
on the training track!
Too often we will go through the motions at training, not truly focusing on what we, as individuals, are trying to improve on, or achieve in that particular net session or fielding drill. I want each and every one of us to approach our training sessions with purpose. Think about what is holding you back from being the best cricketer you can be. Is it technique? Is it patience? Is it control?
Is it concentration? Is it fielding? IS IT FITNESS?? Only then can we
work on improvement.
This year is to be a continuation of the work we began last season, where, as senior players, it's up to the individual to take responsibility. Don't wait to be told, take the initiative. Do the
lake run! Have a catch! Ask questions!! This is the same approach
that's expected on match day. I expect that you WANT to be the one to
take the wicket, to make the runs, or get the runout!I'm certain that if we approach training as we would approach a game, we will all show improvement. Lets be sure to give ourselves the best
chance we can, to win Premierships!!
Lastly, I have been updating our player records, so could you please
email or text me your current mobile number and email address. This
will be used if there are any late changes to teams or training, or if
I just want to annoy you. This year I expect a courtesy call or text
advising me if you are unable to attend a training session. This is
important for me when structuring training. If there are any questions or issues that you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Success is achieved through hard work and determination, but first you
must have a desire to succeed. Do you? Lets get stuck into it!
Tappers.
