Round 3 Match Report - 1st XI
We again won the toss and batted when hosting Mitcham CC for round 3.
We were very keen to continue on our good batting form and post a big total for our bowlers to defend. We got another solid start until Heata was run out with the score on 23, disappointing for Heata who was looking to back up his ton from round 2. Col was joined by Eddie, and the two of them batted extremely well with patience and endeavor to take the score to 91 before Col was dismissed for a well compiled 43.
Just before tea, Eddie was unlucky to be caught off a full toss that could have be deemed a no-ball. I then joined Damo who was settling in very well and looked determined to make a big one. After tea we continued to try and bat Mitcham out of the game, until I copped was dismissed. Brad then missed a straight one, which brought Lachy to the crease with the score at 194 with 15 overs remaining.
Damo and Lachy took full advantage of the remaining 15 overs and with a nice mix of elegance and brutality they took our total to a daunting 289 for the loss of 5 wickets. Lachy played a great innings to end up 52* from 52 balls. Damo was also not out on 90, an innings which showed patience and a strong desire to bat, bat, bat!!

Day 2 started with us being a bowler down after Matty's back wasn't right to go. Many thanks to Liam Patterson for putting his hand up and fielding for us all day. He did an outstanding job and showed a lot of us senior players how it's done. Thanks heaps Patto.
Opening with Bill and Damo we were after early breakthroughs to get the upper hand. Their openers stuck at it well, but after quite a few close calls we got out first break through with the score on 26 when Damo snapped up a sharp caught and bowled. The 2nd wicket stand was solid until we introduced Andy Yeo and he managed to get past the pads of a sweeping batsman and take leg stump, 2/57. Soon after Steelo trapped one in front to make it 3/61.
We continued to work hard and bowl tight lines making life hard for their batsmen, who seemed determined to bat the day out, not necessarily chase a victory. The 4th wicket fell at 91 when Brad was introduced into the attack. He then teamed with Heata for a stumping to have them 5/92. From this point on it was a matter of when, not if, we would take the 10th wicket. We continued to spread the overs between our bowlers, who all bowled extremely well. Bill came back on late and bowled a fantastic spell to capture 2 late wickets. Damo also bowled with great consistency to capture 3.
As the bowling figures suggest, we were very tight with our line and length, and offered just 6 extras (3 byes, 3 leg byes)for the entire innings. A very pleasing effort and we look forward to continuing on our good form.
