Under 10 Cricket.

Under 10 Cricket is a non competitive development cricket fixture for players coming out of the introductory programs such as Milo In2 Cricket. It is designed to familiarize beginners with the concept of 'teams' and club interaction, while ensuring full participation in a safe environment.

A light-weight synthetic ball is used to reduce the chance of injury for those not accustomed to confronting the leather cricket ball. Scoring is optional and there are no winners or losers.

Games will begin in October and are held on Friday nights (5:15 til dark around 7:30 pm) until early March, with the customary Christmas break. Teams will be rotated through Morton Park Home games to try and get everyone a “good go” on the home of suburban cricket Morton Park.

The under 10 program has proved very successful in introducing boys and girls into the junior

competitive ranks and we will be fielding 3 under 10 sides in the coming season. 13 players a team.

The success of this competition relies on the parent involvement. I need a minimum of 2

parents to “coach” each of the 3 sides. If you have any experience with the rules of cricket or

coaching other sports or are just prepared to assist in making the program a fun and successful environment for the kids to learn and prepare for competitive cricket, please contact me ASAP.

At Blackburn CC we expect all our players to be attired according to the traditions of the game

and the local rules. Those dressed like a team play as a team. This means the following:

Training

New Under 10 players will be issued with a free training shirt upon payment of subscriptions, and these are expected to be worn at every training session. If you cannot wear yours for some

reason, an all white shirt will do. Cricket shoes or predominately white runners must be worn

to training and matches. And ideally BCC shorts or black shorts or tracksuit pants (white or dark blue, black permitted).

Brightly coloured board shorts, jeans, belts and chains are NOT permitted.

Matches

White long pants, BCC white club shirts (long or short sleeved). Shirts should be tucked in. Cricket Shoes or White runners (predominantly) , plain white jumpers or with black and red piping (sleeves or sleeveless), headwear – BCC caps (a free cap is issued to all new players on payment of subscriptions) or White floppy hats or ‘Greg Chappell’ style wide brimmed hats.

Coloured clothing, non-white runners and non-BCC baseball style caps are in breach of

BHRDCA rules – the club could attract fines and are contrary to Club policy.

Please observe the above guidelines.

Purchasing Merchandise

Merchandise will be for sale on Saturday September 3rd 10am-11am, 1st pre-season.

Other dates will be advised prior to the commencement of the season. If we do not hold your size in stock you will need to fill out an order form and we will order the merchandise from the supplier. All stock can be viewed at BCC Website Club Shop

.

Sun smart Policy

The Club will again adopt a sensible policy to ensure player protection from the Sun.

Sunscreen will be available with all team managers, but players are asked to apply sunscreen

at home before coming to cricket. Drinks breaks are compulsory but players will also be

encouraged to drink when possible throughout match days.

A no cap/hat, no play policy will also apply, so please have your hats with you at all times.

Rules at Training

1 Do not operate equipment (particularly the bowling machine) unless you have

permission and have been trained in its use.

2 Be aware of others and keep a safe distance from the practice nets and bowling

machine.

3 Look after all equipment used including the Club kits and other player’s personal

equipment, and your own.

We still require further coaches, managers and net captains!!

I only need 1 more Under 12 Friday Coach, and 2-5 Under 10 coaches.

If any other parents would like to become involved in coaching or managing a team please contact me ASAP. The more coaches we have on board the better cricket experience your child will receive!

BCC has invested in the quality of coaching required at junior level by funding the attendance

of our coaches in Cricket Victoria’s accredited Level 1 coaching course. This is a policy that

will continue for all those taking up junior coaching roles in future, be they senior players or

mums and dads of juniors.

The next local Level 1 course is Sunday October 9th, at Whitefriars Collge, we already have 6 Coaching staff attending this course this year.

Parental Involvement

Blackburn has always prided itself on the level of parental involvement in its junior section. One of many reasons, but the biggest reason, why we are so successful in all ages and grades.

We always encourage families to watch their children play, as it gives the kids great reward

for their efforts and creates a positive atmosphere around the teams. In addition, any

volunteer time that can be devoted towards the following pursuits is greatly appreciated:

Team Managers – One or two parents per junior team are required to perform this task.

Responsibilities would include: overseeing scoring, completing the online match data entry at

the conclusion of each home game, preparing drinks, ensuring the equipment kits are

complete and packed away properly at the end of play, encouraging players to watch and

support the team while batting, and generally encouraging team spirit and co-operation.

Net Captains – The purpose of the net captain’s role is to further enhance the efficiency and

effectiveness of net training, allowing the coaches to further develop with players and

their techniques. The net captain is there to provide the fluency and safety of players participating and rotating through the fundamentals of batting and bowling. Making sure that all

players have a bat and a bowl, and to also liaise with coaches in what a player has done

what.

Other Assistance – All parents must make themselves available to the roster for their child’s team. Transport to and from away grounds, support of Club social functions,

support of fundraising activities.

Please let me know if you can help in any of these areas 0457 321 047
