Preseason Summary & Upcoming Season

Well, preseason is almost over and a lot of hard work has been put in by a lot of players, laying the foundations of what should be a successful season ahead.

Overall, we‘ve had 45 players attend preseason. Considering we have only 44 spots to fill, you can see the importance of getting to training to maximize your chances of getting a game!

Of these 45+ players there have been more than 20 players attend approx 75% of our sessions. These players have had fantastic energy and attitudes towards training and I’m sure that they will benefit hugely from the work they have put in. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

I recently attended a captains meeting organized by the association, and overheard rival captains discussing how poor attendance and attitudes have been at their clubs, with training numbers of 12-15 mentioned! This made me excited for the season ahead, and extremely proud of our playing group.

Looking forward, it’s disappointing that we have to wait another week to kick off the season due to the AFL drawn Granny. On the bright side, we get the opportunity to make the most of it and fine tune our skills for another week. Please keep an eye on the website for information on the rescheduling of round 1.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had a few people bring up player unavailability due to commitments outside of cricket. If you know of a weekend, or round that you are unable to play, please email me directly so I can keep a record for the Cricket Committee and team selection.

We also welcome Ollie Hill to the club. Ollie arrived from Newcastle, UK. on 28^th September, and is looking forward to getting stuck into it.  Please take the time to introduce yourself to Ollie and make him feel welcome. 

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone for the support and encouragement I have received thus far. It’s been a tough preseason with weather and ground issues, but I feel that we’ve put ourselves in a great position to get a flying start to the season.
