Blackburn Cricket Club

To all Players & Supporters of Blackburn Cricket Club,

Now that it is official, I wanted let you all know that I am absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to coach the Blackburn CC.

Coaching the club has been something in the back of my mind for quite a while, so when Tommy phoned to offer me the position, I jumped at the opportunity.

We at Blackburn CC are in a fortunate position due the volunteers running our club. From Reggie with Milo cricket and Eddie the juniors (both extremely vital to the future of our club), through to Tommy, Lisa, Neil, and Simon, along with the committee which consists of a fantastic mix of people with differing skill sets, the foundation is set to continue to be a highly successful club off-field.

My job, is to drive on-field success….throughout all grades.

The future for Blackburn CC is very exciting, especially when you consider the success of our junior teams in the 2009/10 season. Many of these players already have a taste of senior cricket, which will prove invaluable to their progress in the upcoming season. To have the 16’s and 14’s winning premierships is a reflection of the talent we have coming through the ranks, and I’m looking forward to seeing these young guys at training pushing for senior selection.

Coming off a season which saw our 1^st eleven narrowly defeated in the semi by the eventual Premiers, I can see room for tremendous improvement in the team. I’m sure there are a few of us that will be looking forward to, and working hard towards a vastly improved season. You can always improve!

Hopefully everyone is eager to get stuck into preseason training, (first session 7pm, August 2) making the most of the new surface at Maddocks Sports. More importantly, I hope that everyone is already thinking about, if not actioning, some sort of fitness training. It will only benefit you come round one (not to mention your team!).

Clubs are training earlier and earlier, with an increased focus on fitness, which in turn improves concentration, so make sure you aren’t left behind.

To be successful, you must train to exceed your own expectations.
