U16A Premiership 10/11

On day one Blackburn won the toss and elected to Bat, unfortunately Tom Gastin was out early, which brought Captain Callum to the crease with Liam Patterson. Liam batted outstanding, with some smart and extremely well timed shots to make a fantastic 27. Well done Liam.

Callum, who had the heartbreak of of losing last week in the B1 semi final, put his head down and took the responsibility of being a captain and a leader on his shoulders and batted like a man with one intention, "winning". 37 runs in 37 overs is not the usual Callum Haughey we have come to expect, but as Callum has learnt great partnerships form winning innings, and this is what he and Patty Walter worked hard to create.

Patty Walter and Cal made a 86 run partnership, a massive effort in any Final let alone a Grand Final.

When Cal was finally dismissed, Drysdale came to the crease and put on a quickfire 20 until he held out in the deep. Then Patty was joined by Beefy Hayden (beefy+patty=Big Mac) they scrambled, pushed and tripped their way into a entertaining 30 run stand which crept the score up to 205 in the 2nd last over.

At the end of the day one's play the score was left on 5 for 210. Patrick Walter, also suffering the heart break of last weeks semi final loss in the Shield 2 grade, made 94 not out.

Patty Walter, a fantastic innings, that will be remembered by all. A great knock that left all of us gasping for more. Great work Patty.

Day Two

In anticipation of early wickets a great crowd had formed at 8:30 to see Beefy and Liam open up the bowling. Heathmont got off to a flyer with 3 boundaries in the first over, "which in hindsight is exactly what the boys from Blackburn needed, a little scare." so from then on in it was all business and Blackburn went to work.

After the flurry of runs in the first over, Blackburn had turned the screws and had Heathmont 2/28 off 10 overs. Heathmont were batting very well and showed why they had made the grand final and consolidated for a very hard fought out 20 run stand for the 3rd wicket. They put the pressure on to the Blackburn team and Blackburn in turn kept putting the pressure back on the batters with great fielding and bowling.

Eventually, with some outstanding fielding, a run out, a magnificent catch on the boundary, and a blinder from Liam at silly mid-on the game had swung all the way to Blackburn's favour.

In a flurry of wickets at the end Heathmont were bowled out in the 37th over for 85 runs and the boys were champions for 2010/2011.

All the bowlers bowled fantastic and performed their roles to perfection.
