Blackburn Cricket Club - Passing of Gary Feenane

It is with great sadness that we advise our members of the loss of our dear friend, Club stalwart and Life Member, Gary Feenane, who passed away on Saturday 9th May.

A true gentleman of the Club, Gary has provided many of our members with long time friendships and, through his impeccable understanding of the rules, has given many of our players, and sometimes umpires, sound advice on laws of the game.

Affectionately know as “Bags” or “G.A.”, Gary’s contribution to our Club has spanned many years, most notably his outstanding service as Scorer for our 1st Eleven for 20 seasons beginning in 1983/84 and as Club Secretary for 5 years.  In addition to his Life Membership, Gary’s exceptional commitment to the Club was recognised in his selection as Scorer for the Club’s Team of the Century in our centenary season.

The esteem in which Gary is held is reflected in the fact that he is the only member in the history of the Club to have his own dedicated real estate in the Clubroom - a plaque placed on the bar reading “Feenane’s Furrow”, the very corner Gary occupied many Thursday nights and nearly every Saturday enjoying a pot of beer and sharing with fellow friends and members his summation of the events that had unfolded that day on the cricket field of his much loved club.

In illness, Gary’s love of the club never waivered, as he watched with enthusiasm our teams competing in grand final games this year - testament to both his loyalty and love of the club, exemplifying the values the Blackburn community culture is renowned for.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to Gary’s wife, Pat, their daughters, Kylie and Linda and son-in-law, Neil.  Gary will be greatly missed by us all; however, the magnificent contribution he has made our Club will be well remembered forever.
