ROUND 2 v Mitcham
The 14B's first game was against Mitcham at Kalang Park. With only 3
U14's from last year our young side were very anxious against some tall opposition opening batsmen.
U14's from last year our young side were very anxious against some tall opposition opening batsmen.
This showed with some wayward bowling and sloppy fielding via several dropped catches and midfield's on a perfect ground.
The openers had rattled up 69 before Harry Date stepped up to
bowl - and delivered us a brilliant hatrick in his second over !!

This gave us the spark we needed and suddenly everyone was on their toes and charging in at the batsman. We kept them to 78 thanks to some tight bowling by Harry, Liam McFadzean Lodge and Captain Jack Haddrick in the last 10 overs and two sensational catches by a diving Will Molloy and a sharp chance to Dean Greenall. Special mention goes to Lachie Shaw who was terrific keeping in a first up effort with two catches and no byes.
Our batting got off to a poor start with 3 quick wickets against some short bowling that distracted our guys from the balls that needed to be kept out of our stumps. Our innings got back on track with some lusty hitting from James Gustin. Then we saw some fantastic running between
the wickets from Gil Hassell (who top scored with 17), Kosmo Tseivelekis and
Alastair Barnes. They all looked for runs and kept the scoreboard
moving. Alas we were all out just 8 runs short of a win but importantly we did not face 5 overs.
A great first up effort with many positives but also lots of lessons we
can learn from, and easily improve on, with concentration for the whole
game and lots and lots of practice.
